Dance Class Descriptions...

Ballet  - ages 7+, also Teen and Adult - Ballet is the classical form of dance and is
foundational to all dance forms.  All levels from beginner through advanced are offered.
The class includes barre and center work.  Benefits include improved overall fitness,
strength, agility, stamina and flexibility.

Pointe – ages 12+ with proper preparative training – all levels, for the more advanced
student of ballet.

Pre-Ballet – ages 4-6 – For the young child, this course is an introduction to some of the
more simple ballet steps, positions and movements.  These are introduced in a manner
that is fun, yet educational.  Flexibility, control, coordination and strength will be some of
the many benefits that the child will gain from this course.

Creative Movement - ages 4+, also Teen and Adult - This class introduces basic steps,
movements, rhythms and expressive movement.  Beginning with floor exercises and
stretches, it includes exploration of creative movement and includes such concepts as
making circles and lines while moving through space.  Dancing with props is a popular
segment of the class.  The class is a great help in motor skill development, especially in
the areas of balance and coordination.  Always honoring to the Lord, our ultimate goal is
to praise Him through movement.

Modern Dance – ages 12+ – Based on techniques developed by Martha Graham and
Lester Horton, Modern Dance is a technique that is a “sister” to ballet but allows for much
freer movement and expression.  Improvisation is a part of the class.

Praise Dance – ages 4+, also Teen and Adult - Using foundations from ballet, lyrical and
modern dance technique, this class helps the student in reclaiming the art of dance for
the Kingdom of God.  Warm ups and stretches start the class and it progresses through
combinations in center adding new steps to expand the student’s vocabulary of
movement.

Ballet Tone and Shape  -12+ - A full body workout blending ballet movements with high
repetition strength training exercises using light weights.  The hour long class starts with
warm ups, includes ab and cardio work and finishes with stretches and cool down.  It will
make you strong and supple.

Dance Fitness – 12+ - Dance your way to the body you want!!  This one hour class starts
with warm ups and stretches and progresses through several songs with
choreographed dance routines and finishes with a refreshing cool down.  Designed to be
a total body workout, it is guaranteed to be FUN as well!

Choreography – ages 4+, also Teen and Adult – Choreography is created for a specific
class or event and taught in this class.  A student recital at the end of the course allows
the student to minister the piece(s) learned.  Choreography is also available for specific
events.

Presentation – ages 12+ - How we present ourselves is a major part of how our dance
ministry is perceived and understood.  This class covers how to present yourself in front
of an audience/congregation and includes help with often overlooked techniques of
things like getting up and down gracefully and making beautiful, meaningful transitions
between movements.

Garments and Makeup – ages 12+ - How do we dress for dance ministry?  What is the
role of make-up?  How do we pull together the proper look for a dance ministry piece?
These are some of the topics covered in this most informative course.

Scriptural Foundations of Dance – ages 12+ - It is important that we are knowledgeable
about what we are doing.  We need to be armed with scriptural answers for those who
may not understand out ministry.  After all, we are still pioneers and educating the body of
Christ about our dance ministry is part of our job description!

Health and Nutrition for Dancers - ages 12+ – Just because we are dancers does not
mean that we are totally fit!  It is important that we know the basics of how to figure our
caloric needs, how to compute our target heart rate for exercising, what exercises are for
what muscles, etc.  This is a fill-in –the –blanks course that will round out your
knowledge of basic health and nutrition facts.

Christian Dance for Healing – Adult - Dance is healing!  Dance out your frustrations and
confront your issues through movement.  The result will be a clearer mind and more
cooperative body as well as a refreshed spirit that comes from being in the anointing.
